Ice on the Branches

(Tune: Smoke on the Water)

An ice storm came to Springfield

On a January evening

Coating trees with a glassy glaze

Man, it was glistening

It sounded like breaking glass

When a limb came crashing down

When it all was over

We lost power to the town

Ice on the branches

No power in the lines

Ice on the branches

Trees blocking every street

The place was quite a mess

Power lines lying hear and there

When they'd be fixed was anyone's guess

Tried heating with candles

But the place got awful cold

When I called about kerosene heaters

They said they all were sold

Ice on the branches

No power in the lines

Ice on the branches

Enchiladas on the propane grill

And the coleman stove so we could eat

Ran a wire from a neighbor's generator

To get a little furnace heat

Finally got our own generator

Feed it gas every frew hours

But we still have no idea

When we're gonna get city power

Ice on the branches

No power in the lines

Ice on the branches

January 23, 2007

Written while we still lacked power

Someone said to me that I should have recorded my ice storm songs during the ice storm.  I replied, "I didn't have power!"
